Alaskan Visitor

This week Uncle David has been visiting Portland attending a class, and we had the good fortune of seeing him. In the photo above, David and Ezra pose in the patio of the r over priced Peruvian restaurant where we went for dinner. It was good, just a little too she-she for my tastes. I took U.D. to the sensory overload known as Last Thursday. Here in Portland every Thursday is an opportunity to attend some artistic event. First Thursday is held downtown, second and third Thursday are somewhere that I don't know (but I know they're out there), and Last Thursday is here in my hood. I generally don't go because it is so wacky and supremely overwhelming. There are vendors, food, art, people dressed up crazy (some on stilts), street musicians, drum circles, face painting, hoolahoops, fossils, and people people people up the wazoo. The sidewalks are crammed so you can't even really look at any of the gorgeous wares on sale because you're just trying to not step on the wiener dog dressed in leopard print.

David commented that as many people that were on the street was probably about equal to how many people live in the town where he lives, Wrangell, Alaska. It was the first time he'd ever seen someone play a saw! Pretty cool.

Maybe a bit much, I probably should have taken him to a quiet park for a walk. O'well, something new and different. He took it well.

At the Peruvian Restaurant I had clams and David had some Snapper. Ezra really liked drinking the clam juice from the shell. He also liked the yucca and purple potatoes that garnished the dish.
His favorite was definitely the orange crayon he received as an appetizer.

So thanks for spending some time with us Uncle David, and we swear we'll be coming up to Wrangell pronto! We won't bring the art walk.

Sun, again

It's so warm here these days clothes aren't necessary. Good job holding the ball right there buddy. Look at him stand!

And here is the video of some steps taken by Mr. Ez as promised. He is very pleased with himself with this new walking habit. I am pleased as well, I desperately want to see him scamper around!

Wonderful Saturday

It has been a wonderful Saturday indeed. I did not take one picture to prove it however, so you will have to take my word for it. It was sunny, barefoot, windows open weather, and Ezra and I had some friends over for a picnic in the backyard. We got the guitar out, put his new bike seat on, and even took a ride. (I am pleased to announce we both wear helmets now, U.D.) We went to a restaurant and had chicken wings which are officially Ezra's favorite food. He had one in each hand and was jumping and jiving all over the place. We left a trail of bones on our bike ride home.

Another exciting piece of news: he's walking! Not all the time, but he is getting more frequent with his steps, and the number is increasing. Today, he scaled a hill! (Holding my hand.) He is a billy goat. A video to come, shortly of the boy's new step!

Sorry no pictures. Next time.

Happy Easter!

Here's how boring the situation looked on Friday night.

Then something happened!

Before we knew it the eggs were all over the yard and the boys were eagerly seeking them out. Here Usiah locates the first Easter egg. We only had to help him a little bit.

Ezra on the other hand needed a bit more help. As he prefers to be carried, our good friend Michael acted as his escort. Together they found 3 eggs! Ezra immediately threw the eggs onto the (luckily) soft grass. The boys had so much fun doing the egg hunt that once they found them all we hid them again!

We had an Easter brunch at our house today and it was a great success. I made a lovely quiche, as well as a cinnamon roll pizza (so good!). Kate made an arugula salad with beets and carrots that was amazing (she is a fabulous cook). On top of that we had sparkling apple cider, fresh bread, delicious cheeses, and fantastic company. People trickled in all day, the food held out, and Ezra had SO much fun. I did too. I love not leaving the house but still getting to see so many friends. I have to work tomorrow (Sunday, Easter) so that's why we had it a day early.

I hope you all have a lovely holiday!

Future Engineer

For Bunny Boy's birthday his Aunt Raia and Uncle Jeff bought him a year pass to the local science museum, OMSI. It is a very appropriate gift as I remember going to science museums growing up and Raia would not want to leave. We'd be there til close, shuffling after her excited gait. Ready to skip the square wheels exhibit, but she would leave nothing unexplored.
Today we officially began our year as members, and had so so so much fun. I think we will go every week! Ezra had not been sleeping well lately, but today, he was conked. There were so many things to do! In the photo above he explores wind force.

He is very content with his new knowledge.

Here he dabbles in some bead work, toying with reflection and vertical positioning.

Now for some tactile experience in the sand box. Here he experiments NOT eating sand.

Lastly, an exploration in a dish of balls. Look at that awesome fish tank!

Thanks Aunt and Uncle- you're the best!Align Center

Sunshine in Portland!

Oh Spring! We are so very happy you are here! He doesn't look happy but he is. Perhaps it's the lion suit that upsets him. We have had 3 60 degree days here in Portland, after weeks of chilly, disgusting, horizontal rain. It is a miracle. On Saturday we were in the backyard, hanging out with the daffodils. There are so many I am almost sick of them. The neighbors had a birthday party and hired a Mariachi band, so we had music with our sunshine to boot! Everything is so much better in the sun.

Sleeping is better in the sun...

Fresh carrots from the Farmer's Market are better in the sun...

Baby in the backyard is better in the sun...

There, he feels a little bit better. Maybe Mama's right...

And here's a little "My how they've grown" moment for you:

So much more hair!
